A state auction of more than 855,000 cartons of contraband cigarettes could happen as early as September, State Auditor Stacey Pickering said. New legislation passed by the Legislature will allow the auditor’s office and State Tax Commission to speed up sales and open the auction to out-of-state vendors.

Wharton County Commissioners Court decided to look outside their immediate circle and go with a real auctioneer for a county-wide auction scheduled for July 25. During a special called meeting Monday, June 29, commissioners approved contracting with Moore’s Hillje Auction and auctioneer James Moore to handle this year’s auction of surplus materials.

SAO PAULO (Dow Jones)–The Brazilian Central Bank on Friday bought U.S. dollars at auction for BRL1.9505 per dollar. The central bank didn’t reveal the volume of dollars it purchased.
